Jiffy Dinner Plates

Description: A style of plate made by Medalta Potteries during the early 1950s.

This style of plate was named the Jiffy Dinner plate by Medalta as inferred from the use of that name in the Medalta price lists from 1953. It appears to have been designed especially for Burns as the earliest dated of these plates are the ones marked “BURNS / JIFFY DINNER”. Burns was also available as late as 1953.

The Medalta stamps on the recorded Burns examples date from 1950 and 1953. One other product, an ashtray advertising the Gault Brothers Limited, Caribou Brand ashtray, also dates from 1950.

The plates measure 7¾ inches to 8-inches in diameter, and as you can see from the pictures of the bottom and side, the edge has several steps to the upper edge of the rim
